VCON 8 featured a "roast" of the magazine Heavy Metal, as well as panels on women in comics, the psychology of robots, Canadian SF, alternate universes, and "Sex, drugs and SF." Jessica Amanda Salmonson gave a slide show and talk on "Swordswomen of Art, History and Legend." There was also a model building workshop, a cartoon jam, puppet shows, animated films, and a screening of Mars in 3D, a movie shot by the Viking lander.
