A trickle of the previous year's theme, "humour", spilled over into VCON 18, with its imaginary Fan Guest of Honour Vincent ("Vincent Fan GoH" — get it?) and infiltration by VirusCon's genetic engineers ("We bring good things to life.") The official theme was "Worlds of Fantasy."
Star Trek clubs and the Society for Creative Anachronism were well represented at the con, which featured panels on colonising new worlds in space, Japanimation, SF and fantasy poetry, vampires, fantasy comics, building realistic SF and fantasy worlds, nanotechnology, and heroic women of fantasy. The con also featured a "barbarian beauty pageant," a harp recital by Paula Lalish, a Cherokee dance of life, and a performance by the Desert Peach troupe.
