VCON 14 combined Vancouver's annual science fiction convention with Canvention, a salute to Canadian SF. It featured talks on French (Canadian) SF, and panels on electronic fan networks, ecological SF and fantasy, the Car Wars game, first contact, the business of convention running, "SF as a Mythology of Technology," and fandom outside of North America, with a special emphasis on Japanese fandom. Mike Finkbiner conducted a demonstration of a naval miniatures battle, and there were also demonstrations of computer graphics. Canvention featured the awarding of the CASPERS, the National Science-Fiction Award that would later be called the Auroras.
