VCON 13
Dates: May 24th-26th, 1985 VCON 13 marked the return of the theme convention to Vancouver. Inspired by the "unlucky" number (no, the con did not lose money!) organisers worked around a horror theme. Mason Harris appeared in costume as the con's "Ghost of honour," H.P. Lovecraft. There were also theme panels on horror games, dark fantasy, and horror storytelling, as well as an introduction to the Call of Cthulhu game and a reading of works by Edgar Allen Poe. Other events included dirigible races, a "helmet bash" by the SCA, turkey readings, and panels on bug-eyed monsters, advice for starving artists, "Drugs in SF as a Social Control Mechanism," religion in SF, and the "horror" of sequels.
