WCSFA MEETING MINUTES FEBRUARY 7TH, 1993
as taken by Graeme and printed in BCSFAzine
VENUE:
House of Evelyn Beheshti & Don DeBrandt.
PRESENT:
President Clint Budd, Vice-President Garth Spencer, Treasurer Donna Mcmahon,
Secretary R. Graeme Cameron, BCSFA Rep. (& President) Darryl Huber, V-Con
Rep. Steve Forty & Member-At-Large Evelyn Beheshti.
BEGINS:
5:30 pm.
SUBJECT: WCSFA REGISTRATION:
- WCSFA
is now officially registered as a limited liability society! Donna pointed
out that only members of WCSFA are protected as such. To be covered, V-Con
Concom must join WCSFA. Details to be developed.
- Must now
open a WCSFA bank account. Clint, Donna & Ev to be co-signers.
SUBJECT: V-CON FINANCIAL REPORT:
- Costs
of function space may be greater than anticipated. Steve reports cannot be
determined till negotiations with UBC completed, anticipated February 20th.
SUBJECT: HOUSEKEEPING PROCEDURES:
- Donna
moved that the annual WCSFA report be presented to all Directors of the Board
prior to its submission to the government as a means of making damn sure we
never again accidently allow registration to lapse. Passed.
- All policy
motions to be logged by Secretary. Passed.
SUBJECT: WCSFA POLICY AND PROCEDURES:
- Evelyn
Beheshti once again took the chair, this time to lead us through the most contentious
items. Discussion was frank and forcefully expressed. At one point an impasse
was reached. Evelyn came up with the compromise that broke the logjam, such
that Steve Forty -- subsequent to the successful hammering out of the draft
policy -- moved that WCSFA commend Evelyn for enabling us to reach a final
agreement. Passed unanimously.
- These
minutes are brief, as the final draft in full will be printed on the following
pages for member's consideration. Draft to be presented for adoption at the
next BCSFA/WCSFA joint meeting.
FINISHED:
9:30 pm.
NOTE: All those involved in the above are your elected representatives, and this is part of their job. Everyone has many years of involvement with BCSFA, and much relevant mundane experience as well. EG: Nico is a successful businessman whose interests include gaming, and he is currently Treasurer for both V-Con and BCSFA. Darryl and Clint were in business together, running a printing company, and both are knowledgeable about computers (Darryl is also a gamer). Donna's been with BCSFA since the 70's and is a freelance reporter and voracious SF reader, and has chaired V-Cons. Steve dates back to the 70's, is a former BCSFAzine editor and offers much V-Con experience. Ev is also an old-time member and brings profoundly calming management skills to the table, along with financial expertise from the insurance industry. Garth is a fanzine writer, winner of a CASPER (now called AURORA) award for his MAPLE LEAF RAG newszine), a word-processing & desktop publishing expert and a well-known fanac historian. Graeme is currently BCSFAzine Editor, has been in and out of the club since 1971, loves SF lit and is blindly obsessed with bad SF films. In combination we represent a healthy cross-section of fandom. All of us are sincere in our desire to put WCSFA, BCSFA and V-CON on a secure, healthy footing. Please give us, and our draft policy, your support.
