The purposes of our Society (WCSFA) outlined in our constitution are:

  1. To foster and encourage interest, involvement and participation in Science Fiction and Fantasy in British Columbia

  2. To conduct conventions to further purpose (1.)

  3. To enable persons and groups to share information about Science Fiction and Fantasy in British Columbia and about the running of conventions.

  4. To educate the general public as to the significance of Science Fiction and Fantasy.

Since its founding in 1993 the WCSFA® has provided support and continuity for Vancouver & area's local convention, VCON, which has been running since 1971. (For historical information on VCONs from previous years, see “VCONs Past”.)

WCSFA was incorporated as a legally registered society in the province of British Columbia January 26th, 1993. It replaced WCSFCCA (the Western Canadian Science Fiction Convention Committee Association), which had fulfilled the same function for the previous 10 years until it lost its registration around the time of Westercon 30.

WCSFA’s membership is composed of members of the immediate past and the upcoming VCON, and the current membership of BCSFA (British Columbia Science Fiction Association)
